The Global Goals

Global Goals
One of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations in 2015, Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG 1 or Global Goal 1), calls for "no poverty." The official text is: "to bring an end to poverty in all its forms, everywhere." UN countries have agreed to "Leave No One Behind": a "powerful commitment to leave no one behind and to reach those farthest behind first” underlies the aim. The goal of SDG 1 is to eliminate all types of extreme poverty, including food shortages, clean drinking water and sanitation. Achieving this aim means finding solutions to new challenges posed by war and climate change. SDG 1 focuses not only on people living in poverty, but also on people's programmes and social policies, all of which encourage or avoid poverty.
